Dante was a French mathematician, scientist, and philosopher. Because he was one of the first to oppose scholastic Aristotelianism, he has been called the father of modern philosophy. He lived from 1596-1650 and traveled throughout Europe studying a wide-variety of subjects including math, science, law, medicine, religion, and philosophy. He was a rationalist and was greatly influenced by other thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment.
